Rijnkade main street
The upper part of the Rijnkade (Quay) main street, on the riverside at Arhnem and west of John Frost bridge all restaurants and cafés have outside terraces.

River Rhine waterlevel
An information post at the Rijnkade close to the John Frost Bridge shows the present water level in Arnhem in relation to NAP the Amsterdam Ordnance Datum (NAP is a common used referral point for constructions). Since 1770 the water levels of the Rhine have been measured in Arnhem on a regular base. The water level measuring station is part of the regional measuring network of the Directorate General for Public Works and Water Management Holland (Rijkswaterstaat Directie Oost Nederland).

River Rhine Houseboat
Living on boats, rocking you gently - Casa Flotantes or Floating Homes almost in the City Center of Arnhem. View from Arnhem's Rijnkade, at the opposite site of River Rhine, living on a houseboat or on board of classical vessels. Houseboats are permanently moored but not powered. Typically is a rectangular pontoon with a mobile home type structure on the top.

Twin Tower

Finally and completed in 2005, also Arnhem got his own Twin Tower, Rijn Tower (Dutch: Rijntoren, left) and Park Tower (Parktoren, right). There is also a WTC in Rijn Tower called World Trade Center Arnhem - Nijmegen. With a height of 70 meters the office towers denote Arnhem's Central station. For more than 50 years the building with the clock tower on the foreground was in use as the entrance to train station. Until 2009 this building will disappear and the area undergoes a conformation change into a futuristic transportation hub as shown on the site plan to the right.

Koepelkerk

Koepelkerk

Koepelkerk A Neo Classical style dome church at Jansplein built between June 1837 and December 1838. On the same location where in de 13 century the Knights of St.Jan built the St.Janskerk as part of the Commanderie of Sint-Jan. The original church building was demolished in 1817. Surprisingly the Koepelkerk is still in use as a church.

Sint-Petersgasthuis front
Rijnstraat Sint-Petersgasthuis In the main shopping street of the inner city (pedestrian zone) one of Arnhem's oldest buildings, built 1354 - 1355. The historic cellar of the building is accessible for public viewing through the 39 Historische Kelders project. (entrance at Oude Oeverstraat 4a).

One of the narrow side streets in the city center of Arnhem. Plenty of shops, bars and restaurants.

Korenmarkt
Korenmarkt (grain market square), in the past also called Nije Merckt and Novum Forum, the nightlife center of Arnhem. Quiet empty in the early morning hours. On a sunny day the square is covered with tables, bright umbrellas and packed with people.

Korenbeurs
Originally built in 1899 as a grain trade or grain market hall (Korenbeurs) but last only for 15 years. Since 1973 the building is in use as a cinema obviously not a common cinema but a film-theater or art-house the former Filmhuis Arnhem now Focus - Filmtheater Arnhem. Unfortunately some significant details of the original grain trade building are lost or removed.
